Srinagar/Jammu, Aug 27 (KNO): Amid the flood threat in Jammu and Kashmir, the Cabinet Ministers led by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Omar Abdullah have been on toes to assess the situation at different places across the region. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Chief Minister visited Jammu this morning and assessed the situation at multiple places in the district to assess damages and oversee immediate relief measures. The Chief Minister visited the flood-affected areas in Jammu to take stock of damage caused due to floods. He assessed the ground situation and issued directions to the administration to take all necessary steps to safeguard the lives of people in vulnerable areas. Besides other officials, he was accompanied by Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Transport, Satish Sharma. Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo visited major healthcare institutions of Srinagar city to evaluate the medical supplies and other essential facilities available for the public. She visited Lal Ded, Bone & Joint, Pediatric and SMHS Hospitals in Srinagar today. Besides, she visited Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and held a comprehensive review of the emergency preparedness and healthcare facilities in light of the incessant rains in South Kashmir. Moreover, Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology, Environment and Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana chaired a high-level meeting to review the flood preparedness and response mechanism across Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting was attended by Advisor to Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg, DIG, Rajiv Pandey, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Akshay Labroo, officers from Irrigation & Flood Control department and other concerned officers. Accompanied by Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, the Minister also conducted an on-ground assessment at the Flood Monitoring Station, Sangam, and reviewed the water levels of River Jhelum. Pertinently, although the situation has improved in Jammu, the Valley is at the brink of floods as the water level has crossed the danger mark in Srinagar. The situation was triggered due to the heavy rainfall in the last couple of days while the weather has started improved with the weatherman predicting dry weather for the next three days—(KNO)
